Short Description: Haruo Shirane, Shincho Professor of Japanese Literature and Culture and chair of the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University, will present, “The Six Realms, Hell and Resurrection in Medieval Japan,” for the first installment of the CMRS Lecture series in spring 2020.


The first lecture in the CMRS Lecture series for spring 2020 is Haruo Shirane, Shincho Professor of Japanese Literature and Culture and chair of the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University. His lecture is titled, “The Six Realms, Hell and Resurrection in Medieval Japan,” and is co-sponsored by the Institute for Japanese Studies.

The lecture will take place on Friday, Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. in the Research Commons of the 3rd floor of the 18th Avenue Library.
