Short Description: The Center for Ethics and Human Values and the Disability Studies Program, with support from the Transformative Access Project, are delighted to offer the workshop “Ethical Program-Building with Accountability to Communities.” In this workshop, Lezlie Frye, assistant professor of gender studies at the University of Utah, will offer a framework for thinking through what it means to start or build a program in academia with attention to values including integrity, empathy, respect and care.
The Center for Ethics and Human Values and the Disability Studies Program, with support from the Transformative Access Project, are delighted to offer the workshop “Ethical Program-Building with Accountability to Communities.” In this workshop, Lezlie Frye, assistant professor of gender studies at the University of Utah, will offer a framework for thinking through what it means to start or build a program in academia with attention to values including integrity, empathy, respect and care.
Drawing on her experience as a scholar of disability, race, and gender and a community-based artist and activist, Frye will address practices of community accountability, how to sustain meaningful partnerships with community organizations and what kinds of obstacles often emerge in the process of program-building. The workshop will begin with a brief presentation, leaving substantial time for discussion with attendees, with an emphasis on sharing experiences and building knowledge.
