Event Host: School of Music
Short Description: Conducted by Kristopher Keith. This concert is free and open to the public.
Join us for “Freedom!”, a celebration of music by Charles Mingus – bassist, pianist, composer and band leader. On the 40th anniversary of his death, we are recognizing this major African American artist whose work often reflected the racism, discrimination, injustice and love he experienced throughout his life. Mike Smith of the Ohio State Jazz Studies faculty joins the ensemble as orator. Selections include Opus 4, Moanin’, Fables of Faubus, Freedom, Love Chant, Tijuana Gift Shop, Better Git Hit in Your Soul, Duke Ellington’s Sound of Love and more.
Conducted by Kristopher Keith. This concert is free and open to the public — no ticket required. For more information, click here.
