Suminagashi is the oldest form of marbling, dating back to at least the 12th century. It is totally distinct, both in material and methods, from the size-based marbling practiced in Turkey, Iran and Europe. In this workshop, we will learn about the history of Suminagashi, materials and techniques, and we will make our own Suminagashi marbled paper.

The Summer 2022 OSU Print Shop Workshops are FREE and open to the public thanks to generous funding from the Ohio State Arts and Humanities Dean’s Discretionary Funds. These funds support faculty led engagement and outreach work that connects scholarship, teaching and service with communities outside of Ohio State.
