We have tutors who can support students in the following courses:

• Biology 1111, 1112, 1113, and 1114
• Chemistry 1206, 1208, 1210, and 1220
• Math 1140, 1141, 1151, and 1152
• Physics 1248, 1250, and 1251

Our group tutoring is offered as a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U) course that you enroll in alongside the STEM course you are currently taking.

For most supported courses, group tutoring is offered through ARTSSCI 1194, a 1-credit course that runs for the semester.

CHEM 1210 group tutoring is structured differently. It is divided into two 7-week sessions, allowing students to enroll for the first half, second half, or both halves of the semester:

• ARTSSCI 1210.01 – Session 1: 0.5 credit, S/U
• ARTSSCI 1210.02 – Session 2: 0.5 credit, S/U

Students enrolled in CHEM 1210 may participate in one or both sessions, depending on when they would like additional support.

Regardless of the course or session:

• Group tutoring sessions are 80 minutes long and meet once a week.
• Sessions meet in person in Ramseyer Hall at the same day and time each week.
• Groups are kept small, with approximately 4–8 students per group.
• Sessions are led by an experienced undergraduate tutor who has successfully completed the course and received training to facilitate group tutoring.
• Students meet with the same tutor and group throughout their enrolled tutoring session.

Group tutoring is designed to complement your lecture, recitation, and other course components. Each week, your tutor will provide structured practice based on the topics you are currently covering in your course. Sessions may include practice problems, group discussions, review of challenging concepts, and collaborative problem-solving.

Students are encouraged to bring questions and topics they would like additional help with so tutors can adjust sessions to meet the needs of their group.

Because group tutoring is offered as a course, students are expected to attend their weekly tutoring session and participate regularly. All group tutoring courses are graded Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U).

If you are looking for tutoring that is more flexible or less structured, you may also take advantage of our drop-in tutoring services, which do not require enrollment or a weekly commitment.

Group tutoring sessions are offered Wednesday through Friday and meet once a week for 80 minutes.

Currently, only CHEM 1210 group tutoring sections are available in Schedule Planner with specific meeting days and times. For all other group tutoring courses, please contact aslc@osu.edu for information about available group tutoring session dates and times.

All group tutoring sessions meet in person in Ramseyer Hall. Your specific room location will depend on your assigned section.

Weekly group tutoring sessions are about more than just preparing for an exam—they’re also about building a community with your classmates. The more you work together and get to know each other, the more productively you’ll be able to learn and study each week.

Because group tutoring is a course, weekly attendance is required to earn credit. However, there are some exceptions and important attendance policies:

• You will not meet when other classes are cancelled, such as on university holidays and scheduled breaks.
• During weeks with a major assessment (exam, checkpoint, etc.), an alternate meeting format may be used if the assessment takes place before your regularly scheduled group tutoring session. Your group may arrange to meet at an alternate time before the assessment or use our drop-in tutoring services instead.
• Students are permitted up to two absences. One absence may be taken without documentation. A second absence must be excused and requires appropriate documentation.
• Students have until the fifth Friday of the semester to drop the course without receiving a W on their transcript.

Yes, group tutoring is graded, but it does not affect your GPA.

All group tutoring courses are graded Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U):

• ARTSSCI 1194: 1 credit, S/U
• ARTSSCI 1210.01 (CHEM 1210 Session 1): 0.5 credit, S/U
• ARTSSCI 1210.02 (CHEM 1210 Session 2): 0.5 credit, S/U

To earn a Satisfactory (S) grade, students must:

• Attend their weekly group tutoring sessions in accordance with the attendance policy.
• Complete the Pre-Group Tutoring Survey at the beginning of the course. This survey helps us learn more about your goals, expectations, and confidence with the course material before participating in group tutoring.
• Complete the Post-Group Tutoring Survey at the end of the course. This survey gives you an opportunity to reflect on your group tutoring experience and helps us understand how the program supported your learning, confidence, and overall experience in the course.

Both surveys are required components of the group tutoring course and help the AMGEN Learning Center evaluate and improve group tutoring for future students.

Group tutoring  has the typical fees associated with the course. If you are enrolled in 12-17 credit hours, your total tuition will not change. You can read more about tuition costs on the registrar website.

Our drop-in tutoring is perfect if you don’t need weekly support or just have a quick question! Drop-in tutoring is a flexible option that allows you to get help when you need it without enrolling in a course or committing to a weekly session.

Drop-in tutoring is available:

• Monday–Friday: 4:00–8:00 p.m.
• Sunday: 2:00–6:00 p.m.
• Saturday: Closed

You do not need to register or make an appointment in advance, and there is no fee to use drop-in tutoring. Simply stop by during our available hours with your questions, assignments, or course materials.

Drop-in tutoring is located at the Amgen STEM Learning Center in Ramseyer Hall, Room 260. Ramseyer Hall is located at 29 W. Woodruff Ave., at the corner of N. High St. and W. Woodruff Ave.

You are also welcome to use the Amgen STEM Learning Center as a quiet study space from 9:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, even when drop-in tutoring is not taking place.

The Amgen STEM Learning Center is also a great place to study, work on homework, or meet with classmates!

Our space in Ramseyer Hall, Room 260 is open for students to study during the following hours:

• Monday–Friday: 9:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
• Sunday: 2:00–6:00 p.m.

When you arrive, please check in at the front desk before finding a spot to study. There is no registration or appointment required—just stop by, check in, and get some work done!
