Department Policies

Policies for Program 60 participation and enrollment vary by department at Ohio State. Be sure to consider the information below when selecting courses.

American Sign Language

American Sign Language courses are unavailable to Program 60 participants.

Art

The Department of Art requires instructor permission for Program 60 participant enrollment into any art classes. Program 60 participants may take the same art course no more than two times, which will be verified before the participant is enrolled.

Aviation

Due to high demand for flight training, flight training is restricted to current degree-seeking students in the Aviation and Air Transportation majors only.  Program 60 students are welcome to request non-flight courses, but any flight training requests will be denied.

The Center for Aviation Studies suggests those interested in flight training look into local flight clubs in their area (e.g. Capital City Aviation, Columbus Flying Club, and others).  Please note that many clubs also have wait lists.

Business Finance (BUSFIN)

Program 60 students will not be added until week 2 with instructor consent, per department policy.

Chinese

Individualized course instruction for all Chinese courses is unavailable to Program 60 participants.

Clinical / Medicine

Courses in Dentistry, Medicine, Optometry, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, and any additional courses with a clinical element are unavailable to Program 60 participants.

Food Science and Technology

FDSCTE 1200 The Science of Cooking is not available to Program 60 participants. The department is not able to support students not enrolled for a grade due to high demand for this General Education science course.  Consider FDSCTE 1140 Kitchen Science as an alternative.

French

By department request, enrollment approvals in beginner (1000 level) French courses will not be processed until after the online registration period has ended for credit-earning students (typically the first Friday of the term, check the Academic Calendar).

Please follow up with the instructor after the first Friday of classes to see if there is still room. With instructor permission, Program 60 participants may be enrolled after the first Friday of the semester and no later than the second Friday of classes, effectively the second week of classes.

General Education (GENED)

GENED 1201, 2601, and 4001 are required courses for our degree-seeking undergraduate students and are not available to Program 60 participants.  They cover specific learning outcomes for our general education program and the content covered is not useful for Program 60.

While some parts of the AI Fluency initiative are embedded into these courses, Program 60 participants will find better courses for their needs if they are interested in learning more about artificial intelligence.

Italian

By department request, enrollment approvals in beginner (1000 level) Italian courses will not be processed until after the online registration period has ended for credit-earning students (typically the first Friday of the term, check the Academic Calendar).

Please follow up with the instructor after the first Friday of classes to see if there is still room. With instructor permission, Program 60 participants may be enrolled after the first Friday of the semester and no later than the second Friday of classes, effectively the second week of classes.

Law

The College of Law does not participate in Program 60 and does not permit Program 60 participants to audit Law courses. Individuals wishing to sit in on a law class must receive permission from the instructor. In cases where individuals are granted this required instructor permission, they may sit in on the class as a guest of the professor.

Math

Math Advising provides enrollment permission into mathematics courses.  Be sure to use mathadvisors@math.osu.edu as the email address on the Course Request Form (this email is also listed on the form for your convenience).

Nursing

Nursing courses are not available to Program 60 participants.

Philosophy

PHILOS 3001 and 3002 are not open to Program 60 participants.  They are restricted to students in the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) major program.

Spanish

By department request, enrollment approvals in beginner (1000 level) Spanish courses will not be processed until after the online registration period has ended for credit-earning students (typically the first Friday of the term, check the Academic Calendar).

Please follow up with the instructor after the first Friday of classes to see if there is still room. With instructor permission, Program 60 participants may be enrolled after the first Friday of the semester and no later than the second Friday of classes, effectively the second week of classes.

More information on enrollments, policies, and procedures for Program 60 participants can be found at the department’s Advising and Enrollment for Undergraduate Programming page.

Statistics

STAT 3301, 3302, and 3303 and potentially additional courses are restricted to Statistics or Data Analytics majors only. Jean Scott reviews and approves all Statistics course requests.  Please use scott.961@osu.edu on the Course Request Form when requesting a Stats class, this email address is also listed on the form for your convenience.
