Event Host: ASC Career Success
Short Description: Connect with professionals who’ve all secured a career in your career community of interest.
Arts and Sciences students are in high demand in the corporate world due to their strong analytic and problem solving skills. Still, it can sometimes be difficult to determine what roles are open to various majors. This event is intended to provide Arts and Sciences students with an understanding of the broad range of finance related career paths they might consider. Panelists will provide insight into what ASC students need to do to be competitive for landing internship opportunities or fulltime employment.
The event will consist of a forty minute panel presentation followed by break-out sessions where students can network directly with the company representatives.
Participating employers include:
- Duff & Phelps: is a global valuation and corporate finance advisor with expertise in complex valuation, dispute and legal management consulting, mergers and acquisitions, and compliance and regulatory consulting. The firm has dedicated industry practices focusing on consumer and retail, energy and mining, financial services and asset management, healthcare and life sciences, industrials, media and entertainment, real estate and technology and telecom. Clients include publicly traded and privately held companies, law firms, government entities and investment organizations such as private equity firms and hedge funds.
- Grange Insurance: offers affordable and customizable auto, home, life and business insurance products. They sell exclusively through independent agents and serve customers across 13 states. With humble beginnings insuring Central Ohio’s farming community, today they serve policyholders across 13 states. Grange has the strength and stability of a large insurance carrier but with the local, personalized service of a small company. Headquartered in Columbus, the corporate home office offers a broad range of career opportunities.
- PNC Bank: PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. is a bank holding company and financial services corporation based in Pittsburgh. It operates in 19 states and provides financial services such as asset management, wealth management, estate planning, loan servicing, and information processing. PNC is ranked 9th on the list of largest US banks by assets. It is the 5th largest bank by number of branches, 6th largest by deposits, and 4th largest in number of ATMs.
- Quicken: is a mortgage lending company headquartered in the heart of downtown Detroit. In January 2018, the company became the largest overall retail lender in the U.S. (it is also the largest online retail mortgage lender).Unlike other large mortgage lenders that depend on deposits, Quicken Loans relies on wholesale funding to make its loans and uses online applications rather than a branch system. The company closed more than $400 billion of mortgage volume across all 50 states from 2013 through 2017.
