The School of Music welcomes Grammy Award-winning electric-violinist Mark Wood, who will be featured in a concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 31, in Weigel Hall Auditorium, 1866 College Rd. on campus. Admission at the door is $12 for adults and $6 for students, cash or check only.
Wood – who performed on Beyonce’s latest album and has performed in concerts with Billy Joel and the Rolling Stones -- is in Columbus to participate in a free, five-day workshop, “Electrify Your Strings,” for string musicians and teachers, in collaboration with Robert Gillespie, professor in the School of Music. Workshop participants will be included in the concert.
Mark Wood is a recording artist, performer, producer, composer, inventor and music education advocate. His dexterity and ferocity as a musician often lead to comparisons with some of the rock era’s most renowned musicians. He began his career at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York and studied with Leonard Bernstein at the Tanglewood Music Program. In the 1970s he invented the first solid-body electric violin; today his company, Wood Violins, is the premier manufacturer of electric violins, violas and cellos worldwide.
