A candid conversation with the editor of The Journal of World History to provide some insights into the sometimes-obscure process of preparing and submitting articles, understanding and responding to readers' reports, and navigating the myriad steps before final publication. For historians, who confront a rejection rate of 75-80% of submissions to the top 250 journals, it is easy to be discouraged. Learning how to best manage the process will ultimately produce better outcomes for everyone, both authors and editors.

Matt Romaniello is an associate professor of History specializing in Russian and world history at Weber State University. He is the author of Enterprising Empires: Russia and Britain in the Eighteenth Century and The Elusive Empire: Kazan and the Creation of Russia, 1552-1671. He is the current editor of The Journal of World History.
