Although rule breaking in Harry Potter is sometimes dismissed as a distraction from Harry’s fight against Lord Voldemort, my new book, Harry Potter and Resistance (Routledge), argues that it is central to the battle against evil. This lecture explores the ways Harry and his allies engage in a resistance movement against the corruption and autocracy of the Ministry of Magic as well as against the racist social norms and wizard privilege.

Join the Office of Academic Affairs for the next event in the Emeritus Academy Lecture Series on April 5, 2023 in person and via CarmenZoom from 3-4 p.m. at Longaberger Alumni House, Sanders Grand Lounge. The lecture topic is Harry Potter, Rule Breaking, and Political Resistance presented by Beth Sutton-Ramspeck, emerita in the Department of English.
