Maria Sulimma presents "'I don’t WANT to kill any of you': Gendered Discourses of Authority and Authorization."

This talk investigates authorship and paratextuality in The Walking Dead, a world where “no one is safe.” Character deaths are integral to The Walking Dead’s generic self-understanding, and paratexts like DVD bonus materials connect these deaths to gendered concepts of authorship and serial continuation. They also organize its position within the franchise, which draws on the theme of survivalism to situate itself against other zombie narratives.

Maria Sulimma is a Fall 2015 Project Narrative Visiting Scholar. She visits from Frei Universität Berlin, where she is working on a dissertation entitled "Serial Discourses of Gender in Contemporary Cable Television Narratives.”
