Hélène Landemore
Hélène Landemore, associate professor, political science, at Yale University, will address "Rousseau's Mistake: The Myth of Direct Democracy" on Monday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. in Derby 2130. Against Rousseau and others, Landemore will argue that direct democracy is not superior to representative democracy. In fact, democracy always requires representation and the important question to answer is, What kind of representation should we aim for? Landemore will suggest two attractive possibilities.
