On November 26, 2019, the UNESCO proclaimed March 14 as the International Day of Mathematics (IDM). March 14 was already known as Pi Day and celebrated in many countries around the world. It is named after the important number π, the ratio between the circumference and diameter of a circle and approximately 3.14.

The IDM is a worldwide celebration of the beauty and importance of mathematics and its essential role in life. At Ohio State, the Department of Mathematics will have a day full of fun games, challenging puzzles and fascinating crafts. Stop by the Mathematics Tower between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to join the celebration.

The department will also host a public talk about "What is π?" by Bart Snapp, assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics in Sullivant Hall 220 at 1:50 p.m.

This event is free and open to the public; everyone is welcome to attend!
