Join the Transnational Black Citizenship Discovery Theme collective as we think about how Malcolm X's 1964 speech "The Ballot or the Bullet" shaped a legacy of political resistance through the demonstration of First Amendment rights for African Americans. We will discuss this speech in relationship to musical performances by BeyoncĂ©, Kendrick Lamar and T.I. that address black disenfranchisement, as well as recent political stands taken by Colin Kaepernick and other athletes.
