Fri, October 24, 2014
7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Humanities Institute, 104 E. 15th Ave.

Event Host: LiteracyStudies@OSU

As part of the Literacy in Translation Series, Richard Danford, Associate Professor of Spanish and Portuguese, and Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion, Marietta College, and Daniel Reff, Professor of Comparative Studies, Ohio State, will discuss their collaboration on the first critical English-language edition of The First European Description of Japan, 1585, by Luis Frois, S. J. Their book represents an important primary source for understanding a particularly challenging period of history and its connection to contemporary Europe and Japan.

Interest in reading, writing, and translating across languages, domains, and media extends widely at The Ohio State University. LiteracyStudies@OSU initiated a lecture series and working group in 2013 to help foster conversation and cooperation.
