Jacob Shapiro, Princeton University, will accept the Edgar S. Furniss Book Award for "The Terrorist’s Dilemma: Managing Violent Covert Organizations" at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13 at the Mershon Center for International Security Studies, 1501 Neil Ave. The book is the first to systematically examine how terrorist groups are structured. Using agency theory, historical case studies and terrorists' own documents, Shapiro discusses the managerial challenges terrorists face and shows how their political goals interact with the operational environment.
