The exhibit “Traditional South African and African American Art Today: The Binding Force of Artifacts,” displays 12 embroidered and quilted textiles that honor the memory of Nelson Mandela and seven traditional beaded sculptures that address the pandemic of AIDS. The majority of the artifacts memorializing Mandela come from South Africa though a few of the quilted textiles were made in the United States.
The exhibit closes on Friday, August 5 and is curated by John Moe of the Department of English.
