All Day
Wexner Center for the Arts

Event Host: Department of Art

Arno Rafael Minkkinen is a Finnish-American photographer who uses his physical presence to connect with the natural environment. His body, most often faceless, creates a visual language by interweaving flesh and nature, a process he views as a way of preparing one's self—in the metaphorical sense—for the inevitable. "Nature should not be required to make such preparations. Our time is limited, but nature must remain eternal.

Minkkinen's black and white images have been shown in over 200 exhibitions worldwide and published in seven monographs. In 2013 he received the Lucie Award for Achievement in Fine Art at Carnegie Hall. Recent exhibitions include the Images Festival in Vevey, Switzerland, Photography Oxford Festival in England, Galerie Camera Obscura in Paris, and the Blomqvist Kunsthandel in Oslo, Norway. Minkkinen is currently a Professor of Art at UMass Lowell, and Docent at Aalto University of Art, Design, and Architecture in Helsinki.
