Chemistry major Samantha A. King is one of two Ohio State undergraduates named 2011 Beckman Scholars. Beckman Scholars are the crème de la creme of the nation's talented and motivated undergraduates who are inspired to seek careers in research that makes a difference. The selection process is rigorous and highly-competitive.

Beckman Scholars receive a $16,000 grant, plus funds for supplies and travel, from the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation to conduct independent research with a faculty mentor in chemistry, biochemistry, or biomedical sciences. They are expected to present their research at Ohio State's annual Denman Undergraduate Research Forum and at the annual Beckman Scholars Research Forum in Irvine, California.

King is a freshman whose project is: Self-assembled nanotubes for cancer imaging and targeted drug delivery. Her faculty mentor is Chemistry Professor Jonathan Parquette.

Beckman Scholar Michael B. Wolfe is a sophomore biomedical engineering major, advised by Biochemistry Assistant Professor Jane Jackman. Wolfe's project is: The molecular mechanism of unique 3’-5’ addition reactions catalyzed by Thg 1.
