Claudia Turro named chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry
Claudia Turro, Dow Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, was named chair of the department, effective July 1, 2019 (pending approval by the Board of Trustees).
Turro has been a faculty member of the department since 1996 after receiving her PhD in chemistry from Michigan State University in 1992 and conducting her postdoctoral work at Columbia University from 1993 to 1995. She was recently given the College of Arts and Sciences Harlan Hatcher Distinguished Faculty Award in 2019, and she has served as associate editor of the Journal of the American Chemical Society since 2016.
Turro also leads the Turro Research Group, which conducts research spanning inorganic, physical, supramolecular and biological chemistry.
