Scholars in Dance Notation Gather at Ohio State
The top-ranked Department of Dance and the Arts Initiative hosted nine international scholars for a two-day symposium at Ohio State that looked at the dance notation systems of Labanotation, Benesh, Feuillet, and Eschol-Wachman; discussed dance analysis systems such as Certified Movement Analysis (CMA), Laban Movement Analysis (LMA), and Language of Dance Center (LODC); along with dance documentation and archiving, and dance criticism. Among the institutions and organizations represented were University of California-Berkley; University of Texas at Austin; Agnes Scott College; Virginia Tech University; Language of Dance Center, London, England; New York Baroque Dance Company; Royal Academy of Dance, London, England; and Dance Notation Bureau, New York City. The event was generously supported by the Dean's Grant-in-Aid Program within the Arts and Humanities, Arts Initiative, and the Department of Dance.
