Arts and Sciences Adds Another Feather

Who donates money to the place they work?

Campus Campaign, run by Ohio State faculty and staff volunteers, has raised more than $130M—yes, million, in the past 25 years.

Every dollar goes directly to support a gamut of worthwhile causes—

the arts; the libraries; WOSU programming; tons of student scholarships; staff development; emergency funds for faculty, staff, and students; animal welfare; homeless children; campus safety initiatives; indigent ER patients; environmental programs; medical research on every disease from A-Z—

If we see a need, chances are we’ll find a fund for it among the nearly 9,000 existing funds. If not, we’ll take the steps to start one. That’s how we got 9,000 in the first place.

Annually, we celebrate our success at an awards ceremony.

This May, we celebrated sixteen hundred new donors and $3.9M in pledges.

That stacked up to make this Silver Anniversary year the most successful on record.

Arts and Sciences was a highly- visible component of that success, winning several awards for record-breaking participation in all areas, well above the University’s overall average.

Arts & Humanities, 54%;

Natural & Mathematical Sciences, 50%;

Social & Behavioral Sciences, 45%

Two of our departments, Astronomy and Statistics, reached an astounding 100%.

We can take great pride in this dramatic increase.

We can be prouder still that these numbers represent a rising awareness that the power of philanthropy is not just for the rich and famous, but a power that we can all wield, in amounts we can afford, to enrich lives and help those in real need, both on and off campus.

Our growing philanthropic spirit did not just happen. It is the fruit of the labors of a cadre of enthuisiastic, dedicated faculty and staff volunteers, who served as Team Captains, Coordinators, and Volunteers and really put their backs and hearts into encouraging and educating their peers to find their passion—and fund it.

Out of 700 volunteers Campus-wide, only 10 are singled out for top awards. These are volunteers who have exceeded every expectation of exemplary leadership and volunteer passion and persistence. They are nominated by their Team Captains and are selected by a Campaign Council committee. Three of those 10 are ASC volunteers who helped make us so successful: Kelli Fickle, English; and Brittany Poast, chemistry; two of only six receiving the Volunteer Leadership Award, the highest award given to a Coordinator or Team Captain.
